Last few jobs before Christmas.

Although it’s damp and cold outside, this week holiday from work has been a great excuse to wrap up and get out in the fresh air and stuck into a few oddjobs….well, for some part of the day anyway.

The veggie plots have had a good digging over and all remaining crops have been used, stored or added to the composter as well as the last remaining leaves on the lawn and around the pond. All the tubs and grow bags have been taken out of the greenhouse, emptied, cleaned and put away in the garage until next season and now that the greenhouse is empty I’ll be placing some of the tender potted plants in there and away from the worst of the frost. As I sat in the there, giving the greenhouse panels a scrub, i was already making mental note of what’s going to be grown in here next year…bring on the sun 🙂 I’m also toying with the idea of a second greenhouse/lean too.

A few repair jobs done too including replacing our guttering that had broken due to snow buildup and also the bird table that was blown across the lawn the other week during the few days of really high winds me had here. It probably didn’t help that our current table is a bit flimsy and lightweight so in the new year I’ll be either buying a much larger/heavier model or indeed look at building one myself…the bird table mame arcade machine?….maybe not eh 🙂 This could be my next project using my new workbench table that Santa might either deliver or provide and I.O.U for post christmas sales?

Speaking of birds, our garden hedgerows appear to be home to the biggest group of House Sparrows this year as well as a couple of groups of Blackbirds that dart between the pond, trees and crab apples.

Here’s a few shots taken from the kitchen window.

Fat balls appear to be very popular.

Should I charge rent? 🙂

Thought i’d treat them to some Meal Worms but the Starlings got to them first. This feeder was stripped in fury of feathers within five minutes!

Christmas gift shopping was also on the list for this week and iphones prepped with lists of what we wanted and where we wanted…including backup plan a, b and c….i kid you not, this was a military operation 🙂

All gifts are wrapped and awaits the tree, which should be up tomorrow as well as some of the diy wreaths i’ll be making from various bits n bobs foraged from the garden….or..a sneaky dash to the garden centre sans ‘..and here’s one i made early’ moment.

Nice photos of the birds. 🙂

Good to hear that you’ve finished “Operation Christmas Gifts”. I’m not completely done myself, have a few more to go, but I’m getting there. 😉
